Star Seller, October 2026: What the Badge Actually Means

Etsy awarded the studio Star Seller status for October. Here is what the numbers behind the badge say about how we work, and why we intend to keep them.

Etsy awards the Star Seller badge to shops that meet a set of service standards over a rolling review period. We've earned it consecutively for 3 years. The review window ran through a quarter. We are proud of the result, but we are more interested in what the numbers actually describe.

A badge is a summary. The work behind it is not. So we want to walk through what each metric measures, and what it says about the way this studio operates.

Response rate: 100%

Every message that came in during the review period was answered. The target Etsy sets is 95 percent. We treat a message the same way we treat a photograph: if someone took the time to send it, it deserves a real reply, not a form. Most of the messages we receive are about someone's memory, a date that matters, a pet, a person. Answering them is not a task. It is the beginning of the work.

"A badge is a summary. The work behind it is not."

On-time shipping and tracking: 100%

Every order in the window shipped on time, with tracking. The target is 95 percent. This is the metric we are most careful about, because an engraved piece is usually tied to an occasion — a birthday, an anniversary, a memorial. A late piece is not just late. It misses the moment it was made for. We proof, engrave, finish, and ship on a schedule that protects the date, not just the deadline.

Average review rating: 5.0

The target is 4.8. We held a perfect five across the review period. We do not chase reviews. We chase the moment a customer opens the box and sees their memory, permanently, for the first time. The rating follows from that. When a piece is right, the customer says so. When it is not, we hear that too, and we fix it before it ships.

Sales and orders

The studio recorded $10,100 in sales across 94 orders during the window. Etsy's threshold is $300 and five orders. The volume is not the point. The point is that 94 families trusted us with a memory they wanted made permanent. That is 94 photographs read, proofed, and engraved, each one carrying a story we will never fully know. We count the orders. We remember the responsibility.

Cases refunded: 0

The target is three or fewer. We had none. A case is Etsy's term for a formal dispute that could not be resolved directly. Zero means every order was completed to the customer's satisfaction without escalation. We would rather re-engrave a piece at our own cost than let a dispute sit. This metric is the one we are quietest about, and the one we watch closest.

What comes next

The next review begins November 1. The badge is not permanent. It is earned again every quarter, against the same standards, by the same small studio in Northwest Indiana. We do not intend to change how we work to keep it. We intend to keep working the way we always have, and let the badge follow.
