The Atelier

A bench, a beam, and a person who cares.

EngravedByLiz is a small laser-engraving studio in Northwest Indiana. We are not a factory. We are a mom and pop shop, with a couple of machines, and a refusal to let a photograph be the only place a memory lives. Over 1,600 pieces have left this bench — each one proofed by hand before the beam ever touches wood.

The EngravedByLiz studio workbench

From seedling to artifact.

The life of every piece, traced end to end.

  1. The Seedling

Every piece begins decades before we touch it — a tree growing in the Midwest, ring by ring, recording seasons of rain and light.

  2. The Reclaim

We source fallen and reclaimed timber, never cutting live trees. The wood reaches our bench with its story already half-written.

  3. The Bench

Each slice is hand-selected, dried, and sanded to a natural bare-wood finish. We read the grain — including the sap stains and heavy figuring that burn darker under the laser — and embrace them as part of each slice's one-of-a-kind character, never a flaw to hide.

  4. The Beam

A focused beam of light vaporizes wood fiber on contact — drawing your memory into the grain, permanently.

  5. The Artifact

Proofed, finished, and shipped. 1,600+ pieces and a 5.0-star record later, a new chapter leaves the studio.

"Paper fades. Screens flicker off. But a groove cut into wood endures — and the only thing more permanent than engraving is the regret of a detail missed."

The Studio Ethos

Reclaimed timber

We source fallen and reclaimed wood whenever possible — no live tree is cut for an engraving.

Certified timber

Our wood is USDA and gypsy moth certified, sourced to meet strict phytosanitary standards.

Unfinished / bare wood

Every piece ships unfinished as natural bare wood. For outdoor display, apply a Rust-Oleum matte or gloss finish. We are not liable for exposure damage — finishing is at the customer's discretion.
